Committee Members Becky Warburton, Chair Diana St. Laurent, Member Report February 13, 2009 1. Since our last report, we lost another member of this committee. We thank Jess for all that she has done with our progress on the scholarship committee. The issuing of scholarships was a long-time goal of this Association, and to date, we have given away $9,000. This is no small feat. 2. We have sent the documents for payout for the final two scholarships from our 2008 awards. 3. The balance in the scholarship account is: (unavailable at this time) 4. We need to continue to actively fundraise if we are going to give scholarships. We have been fortunate these past couple of years to garner a table at the NH Police Association convention at no cost to us. I have heard in years past the event was mobbed, but our experience the past two years, the event has been lightly attended. The rain did not help us in 2008. In these tough times, any help we can give folks is appreciated, but I feel we will also see a decline in folks spending the extra cash, in favor of watching over their own first. 1'm not sure we'd even get donation support as companies are cutting back and imposing layoffs. Thinking forward to the future, regardless, who has ideas? What can we do to get the balance up, so we can give more money away? Who will help? For discussion: Should we suspend scholarships this year, in order to grow our balance? 5. The application period is open, and there have been no inquires to date.
