This letter is to introduce you to the New Hampshire Chiefs of Police Secretaries Association (NHCOPSA), and to tell you a little bit about our organization. In June of 1993, a group of law enforcement secretaries throughout New Hampshire met at the Portsmouth Police Department to discuss the need and draw up an outline for an organization that would expand the role of professional secretaries to the chiefs of police in our state. Thus, the New Hampshire Chiefs of Police Secretaries Association (NHCOPSA) was created out of the discussion of that charter group. NHCOPSA is comprised of charter, active, associate and lifetime members who meet bi-monthly at various sites around the state. We also associate our organization with the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police, Inc., (NHACP), which is a professional organization of police chiefs, chief law enforcement administrators and law enforcement professionals. At the first meeting, it was determined that of the utmost importance were goals and objectives that would serve all members. Foremost in the minds of that charter group was a network of secretarial support which would uphold the honor and integrity of our career responsibilities, a method to offer specialized training to expand the scope of professionalism, and quarterly meetings held to maintain a close professional relationship between the members of the organization. We have come a long way since that first gathering and now have organized committees such as: Scholarship, Positive Promotions, Fundraising and Training. We hope you find this information informative, and hope you will soon join us at one of our meetings. Looking forward to seeing you soon!!
